Tachometer accuracy at idle

Tachometer accuracy at idle
Just curious: how accurate is the tachometer at idle? My bike won't idle strongly at any less than about 2200 indicated on my tachometer, but when the engine is off I think it's showing about 1000 RPMs.
Is this normal? Should I use a digital tachometer to check my idle to get it set right?
I'm wondering, since I want to make sure that my idle isn't too high (seeing as how I just cleaned my carbs).
But I suppose that 2200 - 1000 = perfect 1200 idle. It doesn't sound all that high.

*****, your needle broke from redlining it too much?
also, yes, it pretty much looks like the needle is at 1000 or so when the bike is off. could just be a factory calibration error.
I don't think it sounds like it's idling at 2,200 RPMs... then again, I can't be sure exactly what 2,200 RPMs sounds like on a 600 as I've never heard any other bike with an accurate tacho doing it. If I had to guess, it's probably more like 1500.

A 2200 rpm idle sounds pretty labored, you would probably notice it sounds really high. On my bike a 1000 rpm idle is too low and 1500 too high. 1200 is perfect soup
