So.... Toshiro. What was the final result of your repair? Did you continue forward or decide against it? I have a broken tripometer too, but have opted to ignore it until I learn more.

I decided against it. i'll have to find a new guage or find some time to break into it myself.

I have a Smokin Joe's F3 in an F2 frame - everything but the frame and swingarm are F3. When I built it, I didn't have an instrument cluster and used an old f2 cluster. I had no speedometer, and of course the air vent solenoid had to be grounded to work properly. To make a long story short, I bought a new cluster through ebay for about $100, but the reset button on the odometer was broken.
It worked for a while, I guess because the stem was lined up in the right spot. Finally I took the entire thing apart to have a look at it. The stem itself was broken, and I was able to drill a tiny hole in both pieces and insert a piece of finishing nail as a splint. A little bit of epoxy to hold it together, and it has been perfect ever since. If you've put off the repair because of the cost - take a couple of hours and pull it off to have a look. You may be able to repair it for nothing.

I can see how a broken trip could be a pain in the **** especially coz they didn't bother to put a fuel gauge on them. I guess it would be a good winter project.
Good luck

If it's a similar repair to what I had to do, it was a Sunday afternoon in the spring. The bike has been an ongoing project and I ride daily, so most of the things I work on I have to figure out how to do it all at once.
