Default Red/White wire on R/R is burnt. Battery not charging.

My bike has died a few times in the past week. When I first got it, the original R/R melted and caused a lot of trouble. I replaced it with one from a early 2000's R6 back in the fall and have had no troubles since then until recently.

I hooked up my voltmeter to the battery and revved to 5k, but there was not the 13.5-15 volts that should've been showing. The red/white wire that goes from the R/R to the battery is slightly burnt and charcoaled.

I've been trying to follow this diagnostic site that I found, but I'm unsure about some things. http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/140473.aspx

I've made it to step 5, but I don't know what setting on the voltmeter to use to check continuity. I've tried using ohms, and it says -1.6 on step 5. Is that what I should be getting?

What is the setting for resistance? Isn't it ohms?

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Well I am going in the same circle right now, only none of my wires or modules have fried. To find continuity on the muiltimeter just place to the leads together and run the gamit on the meter, when it makes a buz or squeech sound that is the continuity setting. Most of the time they have a diagram of a speaker or something to that effect. Oh ya resistance is measured in ohms, I bet you are checking the resistance between each of the yellow wires, if you are make sure the meter is set on the 2000 rating under ohms. You can also check the output of the stator by checking the ac volts while the bike is running and the r/r is unpluged. You will need to plug one lead to a yellow and the other to a different yellow, at idle you will have around 15acv and as you rev up to 5K rpm it should be around 35 - 50 acv. Check it out between all three wires. Good Luck and keep us posted

Continuity symbol varies:

Step 5 is asking you to make sure the ground wire from the R/R actually makes it's way up to the battery's - terminal. You do this by setting the multimeter to Coninuity, sticking one probe in your R/R connector's ground pin (while its disconnected), and touching the other one to the battery's - terminal. You should hear a beep. If not, there's your problem. Trace the wire and figure out what's up.
