question about f3
hi everyone, im new to this forum and im looking for some advice. I think i may be buying a f3 and it has around 25,000 miles on it. i was curious what damages should i look for or expect out of the bike. the owner seems to have taken prety good care of it. thanks for any help.
That's not too much for the bike if it has been taken care of...these things are famous for clutch rattle so don't let that scare ya off. CCT's are known to go so they can be a bit noisy too and for the most part they are more of a nuisance than anything....
I would do the usual stuff like give it a thorough once over: compression test across all 4 cylinders, testride , etc etc...What is the guy asking for it?

I thought the CCT was an issue on F4i's, but not older bikes like ours. I don't hear any weird noises, at start-up or anywhere up and down the tach.
If the bike hasn't been abused and has had proper maintenance, you shouldn't have any problems for many miles to come.
I got my F3 almost a year ago with 22k miles; now I'm over 30K, totally problem-free.

lol thanks for that tip, infact im going to take it in for a full check up at a dealer (ufortunatly im not to mechanically inclined). hes asking 2,900. im going to offer 2,100 since he called me to sell me the bike, after a week i called him. and its been for sale for at least 2 weeks.
1 word.......... Leakdown
You can manipulate compression (read: cheat by decking head, head gasket trick and a few others),but leakdown will tell you if there's a problem, and where it is.

I just test rode a '96 F3 and it felt good!
Faster, more responsive than the f2 I owned.
Also felt lighter and more nimble if that were possible...and the brakes were solid.
Very nice bike.

probably your best bet. there are alot of knowledgable people on this site but sometimes we forget things. the price doesnt seem too bad, given that there is no hidden issues.
