Powdercoated Calipers
Im thinking about getting new brake lines and if i were to do that i would like to dress up the calipers as well so has anyone had this done and if so did the powdercoater make you tear down the caliper or did they just mask off the piston, bleeder port, and banjo fitting??
Powder coating involves heating the part up to between 300 and 350 degrees F. That would probably damage the rubber "O" rings that are around the pistons in the calliper. They are going to make you take the callipers apart ( I had some done on a car). Once you have the callipers off, it's very easy to get the pistons out and remove the "O" rings. They will need to be degreased as well, but usually the Powder Coater will take care of that. If you want, you can use a small dremel tool on some of the casting marks to smooth them out. Naturally you wouldn't want to touch any of the machines surfaces, but smoothing out the casting marks would help with the final appearance.
Hope this helps.
Hope this helps.
I knew that powdercoating involved high heat temps but i just never thought about it. I guess the answer to my question was the only thing i was not thinking about. oh well, thanks for the input guys
