Default performance issues

Hey guys, I'm looking for a little insight here. I have a 96 F3 and lately its been running pretty roughly. The symptoms are rough idle, a good bit of back firing under acceleration and a sudden strong smell of fuel when the bike is running. I've read that blocked tank vent hoses can cause this but mine are open and not tangled. I also changed the plugs but it appears none are fouled out. I also checked everything else and there are no fuel leaks and nothing else is apparently broken externally. I'm leaning towards an evap issue but it of course could be a valve issue. Any tips?

has the bike sat for a period of time recently? if so your carbs could be gunked up, you could probably try some carb cleaner in the gas and see what happens

No I ride the bike every day. I may try that anyway, or some lucas or something along those lines. It literally started this monday out of nowhere. A friend of mine suggested the choke was stuck open, but thats not the issue (although the idle does stay semi high after coming off the throttle to a stop).

i bet its your battery. is it old? My truck had some running problems... bought a new battery and it ran fine! just by a new battery and try it out. if it doesnt work just return it. you might want to ask your local walmart or whatever on their return policy for batteries first

^^^ that is also a good suggestion, i was having problems with my f3... it was starting but backfiring and running rough and i charged up the battery overnight and it was fine, might wanna start with that cause its a pretty cheap and easy solution (if you have a charger)
