Default now I am confused

I talked to the original owner of the bike today, we were talking about his gearing. He geared the bike -1/-2. I see everyone else is doing a -1/+2 - when I am driving highway speed I am at 7k rpms. Should I take off the -2 and go +2? what is the bonus to what I am riding now?

count the teeth on the sprockets first. going smaller in the front or going bigger in the rear give you more acceleration or "low end". going bigger on front or smaller on the rear gives you more "top end" and less acceleration. 1 tooth in front is equal to 2-2.5 teeth in rear. going -1/-2 is completely pointless since its about the same as stock

the tooth count is also usually stamped onto the gear-to save you the headache of counting. stock is 15 front 43 rear i believe...

wouldnt say pointless because some sprockets are cheaper that way.

Actually it is kinda pointless because you've got close to the stock drive ratio but with smaller sprockets. Smaller sprockets means more revolutions to go the same distance and thusly more wear.

Did you count the teeth just to make sure you know what you've got?
