Keep an eye on the battery, it's common for the Regulator/Rectifier to go bad and not sufficiently charge the battery... You can get them aftermarket on Ebay

 

I've always grounded the plugs with a copper wire wrapped around the threads and then attached the wire to the frame where there is no paint. You could also just touch the plug threads to some part of the bike that is grounded.
