New headlight "popped" almost instantly!!! ;(
I'm new(ish) here so, hi everybody!
I recently picked up a '96 F3. ( Had an F2 back in the day. It was new.) Anyway, the F3 is not so new, and seems to have a problem that's getting on my nerves.....
Got it about 3 months ago.
Would often stall, and leave me with "dead battery" symptoms.
Could always roll start it, and get home just fine.
Finally quit for good.
Did the "tests" and discovered a new R/R may fix the problem.
Got a Electro-Sport R/R, and everything was great.
28 days later, problem is back. Bike totally dead!
Got a repalcement (warranty) R/R. All good again!
Another 2 weeks, the bike did the "rotten egg" thing, and left me having to roll start it. It ALSO would not go over about 2500 RPM. Had to Limp home.
Tuesday: Got a new battery and everything "seems" fine again...
TODAY: Went for a ride during the day. Everything is great.
Went out to run to the store on the bike this evening. NO HEADLIGHT (low-beam). CRAP!
Got a new "Silverstar" bulb, and installed it.
Ready to ride!
Bike idled for about 5 minutes while I got suited-up. All good!
Revved bike some in driveway, noticed huge "bright and dim" thing going on, associated to RPM.
I have a bad feeling about this.
Went down the street (lights on "dim"). Got into the RPM some and BAM, no headlight at all!
Switched to "bright" and got light back.
Got the RPM up again, and the "bright" went out! NO lights!!!!!
Crap again.
Luckily I was very close to home, so I did a U and parked it.
My question is: WTF?
I do car motor swaps all the time, and am always faced with electrical "issues", but this is just strange. I'm not familliar enough with the charging system of the F3, but could it be the stator (alternator, right?)......?? Remember, I have a new battery, and new R/R.
Any help would be great!
Thanks!

RE: New headlight "popped" almost instantly!!! ;(
id say if you went through that many R/R then you have a stator problem. The blown headlight is a good sign of charging system problems. Its the easiest thing to blow when the voltage spikes. i had same problem with my F3 and mine ended up being a fried R/R, but like i said if you keep having R/R problems then you have a stator issue. good luck
