new bike - rattling noise
Hi guys, Bought my First Bike yesterday. A 96 600F. It's great but there's a sort of intermitent rattling noise that comes from the engine when idling. I phoned the seller and he told me its the cam chain tensioner. Does this sound correct to anyone? and is it urgent to fix? big job? safe to ride at the mo? Thanks for any help guys

RE: new bike - rattling noise
Could be CCT, but you can hear em even when your riding. If the guy who sold it to you reckons that it is!!! then could be. But, next time you start it up, pull the clutch in, if noise goes away, it just the clutch basket ana nought to worry about. If it turns out to be the CCT, it not a great problem either. Its an easy enough fix, but it costs money. I know that when you buy something its up to you to make sure it ok, but I certainly would be ringing the seller up & thank him for being a *****.
Oh nearly forgot, yeah its safe enough to ride for the mo, but would consider getting done as soon a pratical, if its the CCT, it will get louder if it is that & drive you to distraction.

10 mins to replace the cct once the plastics are off. Take off the right hand side plastics, front and back (back comes of first). Then take he plate that holds the clutch cable in place off. Take out the little screw in the midle of the cct. Stick in a small flat screw driver in and turn clock wise till full stop. Now you are ready to take of the cct. Undo the 2 screws and take it out. Installation is the revers. Get a manual cct if you can. Will last you forever and will keep your chain tentioned properly. Needs adjusting just a couple times a year. Good luck.

I just did above your post. Look in the manual for more info. As i said its a 10 min job. Nothing to hard. Once you take off the plastics everything will be clear as to what to do. Just go for it. If get stuck just post here. And i'm sure there is a write up here somewhere already. Do a search. Good luck.
