Default my 98 wont start

I just bought this bike a few weeks ago and it has been nothing but problems. The other Day i took it out and went 200 plus miles and she worked perfect. I went home to eat some dinner and when i came back out to go riding all the bike would do when i hit the starter would just click once and that was it. At this time i also noticed some gas driping out of the airfilter contraption( i do not know the proper terms) and i was told that that could possibly be my over flow hosing. It was a warm day so i am assuming the gas just expanded after i filled it up. I checked the battery and that is fine. The lights do dim down when i hit the starter but i figure that is normal. HELP ME HELP ME HELP ME!

you can email me at adamgenereux@gmail.com if that is easier

thank you

Sounds like a bad battery or starter motor if it's truly just cranking once, then nothing...

If you're sure that stuff is okay, then maybe pull one spark plug boot from each side, and crank it to see if your coils are actually producting spark (in the dark). While you're in there, pull the plugs and make sure they look okay (not oily black or with worn/corroded terminals)

Hope you figure it out! These are still very good bikes.

Based on your description, it's the battery. That's the simplest thing it could be. When you say the batter is ok, what are you basing that statemtent on ? You headlight goes out when you hit the starter switch because the starter switch has 2 sets of contacts in it. 1 set applies power to the starter relay to engage the starter motor, and the 2nd set interrupts the power to the headlight. The headlight takes a lot of power to opperate and the starter needs all it can get. Do you have access to a meter ? Check the voltage accross the battery when you hit the starter button.
