Default jetting the answer?

So I just sent my bike in to the shop to figure out what is wrong with the carbs. My bike would run on full choke but bog out with gas. It also has a high flow exhaust and air filter and has already be jetted. It has always run like this since I bought it. So the guy said that the jets are wrong because of the upgrades. But I'm just wondering wouldn't the bike have run well before with it jetted already and these upgrades. The outside carbs had a number 40 or 41 and the inside ones were 38. Should i tell him to try jetting it again or should I put it back to stock?

When you say you have a high flow exhaust, you mean the entire exhaust has been replaced, or just a Slip-On ?

What happened that caused you to take you bike into the shop in the first place ? Unless you're made of money, it's going to be really expensive to pay someone to properly jet your bike. Not because it's hard, but because it's tedious, takes lots of patience, and mostly lots of time. Remember, Time Is Money.

thats a tough call. without knowing the specifics of your upgrades, but a blind guess would be that you may be running a rich if it is bogging just off idle. the problem would be with your idle/slow jets though, or possibly with your air fuel set screw. you also may need a sync and valve adjustment. the easiest way to figure out the rich thing, is to pull the top of the air box off and pull the filter and then start the bike. you may see it lean out and run a little better without those in the way, but again, you are talking idle circuit. if i were you, in this order, i would: do a valve adjustment, then a sync and see if that improves it. if it still isnt running better, then you may need to pull the carbs off, and give everything a really good disassemble and clean and put it back together. check everything while you have it apart. if it is jetted, most bikes will run just fine with stock idle/slow jets in just about any configuration at idle. the air fuel set screw is what you would want to play around with when you start leaning out your bike. once you get it back together and running well enough to street it, then you will want to give it a good test ride, and run it through its paces. take note of where it seems to go flat, or where it backfires if at all, and then play with the jetting/needle position in that range until it is dialed in. sometimes it can take a few tries to get it all working properly.

Thanks for the quick replies. It has a UNI air filter and wileyco race slip on exhaust. And I have checked everything except for the valves. I had the valve cover off but never measured. Anyways I hate long posts so I tried to keep it brief. When I had the carbs completely apart they were already jetted like I said and everything was clean. I ended up changing all the pilot screws cause I stripped one. I set all of them to 2 turns out wiphich is factory spec for canada. Could this be the problem. And the reason why I took it to a shop is because I need this bike to be going soon since I have a bunch of other work to do to it and my boss said this guy was really cheap and knew his stuff. The more I think about it the more I want to just find a stock muffler and get a paper air filter from honda and jet it back to stock. Just frustrating when you spend so much time on something only for it to do the same thing.

So I just got my bike back. It wasn't jetted properly. The guy used the Dynojet kit and it runs great now. Thanks for the help, can't wait to ride it.
