How do I paint a bike?
I'll definitly take some pictures.
I just did the right maintenance panel today. I got as far as primering it, but i've found a few flaws in the cracks that I filled. The Plastic Weld really works wonders on the cracks.
But do I want to use the plastec weld in the scraps or just sand it off?
Tomorrow, I'm going for the other maintenance panel and possible one of the fairings.
Also another question is that when you painted your's black. Did you paint the inside of the fairing as well?
Thanks for your help.

I just lightly hit the inside of the fairings - just to keep it from popping out at the eye.
For the rash, especially in areas where the rash may have flattened a contoured area of plastic, just gunk the hell out of it with plastic weld. Make sure you get it down in the rash, and then bring enough of the weld to the piece so that it rises above the OEM part, and allowing you to really get down on it with an orbital. In short, you'll be sanding a good deal on parts that have some moderate to deep rash. That's where the good lighting comes in also. You can hold that piece up to the light and immediately see if you've kept the shape in tact - or possibly flattened a previously curvy area.
I did forget to mention, be careful with the access panels - I snapped my right one twice while orbit sanding plastic weld - the only good part was that it didn't break at the plastic weld, it broke in a new area. The vinration of the sander is just too much for that little piece. That's where it comes in handy to be more precise with your plastic weld applying. The less you have to sand off by hand, the easier the job is.
What is the original paint scheme you're painting over?

Hi, just out of curiosity. You keep on mentioning plastec weld. Is that the normal plastic welding where you melt the fairings with a heat gun or soldering iron or is it some kind of compound?

Well I finished up the lower fairings, but got so into the work I forgot to take pictures of the work. Sorry. I'll Take pictures of the upper fairing tomorrow.
I forgot to ask. Does your fairing have that foam stuff on the inside of the fairings? And did you remove it or leave it there?
Careful with the Wii. I heard IT can be more dangerous than riding a motorcycle. HAHAHA.
Yea I was thinking of getting a corbin as well. Don't know if I want to get the one seater or two. I'll probably go with one. So I have an excuse not to carry anyone. Hahahaha. Of coruse that means I have to get my girlfriend her own bike. DAMN. it's a double edged sword. hahaha

Hey KidCr3nshaw,
I've been working on painting my bike the last few days. I had a lot of cracks in the fairings, and that plastic weld really works great. I was wanting to leave it flat black like your bike. Your's really looks good. I was wondering if you used any kind of clear coat on top of the black paint? I've got the tail sections almost done already and the paint seems kinda soft without some kind of coat on top of the black.
I was also thinking about making it all flat black with a white tank, front fender, and tail section behind the seat. It would look like it had a stripe down it. Do yall think that would look ok?

Well I ended up using some Krylon satin clear coat ontop of the flat black. I'm finished with everything but the tank and it looks really good. I ended up painting everything black. I'll put up some pics if anybody wants to see them.
