Yes those are filters. There are links to manuals you can download (zipped) from this site.

One thing I noticed is the air solenoid is there is a difference from CA and the other 49 States. (As if only CAlifornia is the only state! We love the other states!!!) There is an idential solenoid in line right behind the air solenoid. This is the gas evaporator solenoid. (Damn CA emmissions!!!) If you look at the wiring diagram you can see that this (air) hooked up to a relay which is located in the upper right section of the right side of the upper fairing. This will have four wires. One orange which is 12 volts and I believe the two black is low level (sensing) voltage which I believe is suppose to around 5 volts. I'm not sure exactly what the volatge is. This conector coming from this relay will be on the right side of the frame with a white or clear conector. There is a way to test this but if I can remember correctly there is a different way to test this which is different from CA emmissions. Read the manual to be sure on how to test it. I had the relay go out and I am currently testing the air solenoid.

Has anybody who had a bad air solenoid ever noticed how their bike reacted by just disconnecting the hose and letting it run with free air? Post here is you have please.

Correction I wrote,

If you look at the wiring diagram you can see that this (air) hooked up to a relay which is located in the upper right section of the right side of the upper fairing.

What I meant to say is it located on upper LEFT section of the LEFT side of the Upper fairing.

I have been running without the solenoidsand vent tubes hooked up, and I dont notice any ill effects..... they just fine tune the air at different speeds... you shouldnt notice with or without them

You will definately notice a difference without the vent tubes hooked up. My bike ran like s*** and I could barely do the speed limit.... i now have it hooked up with the outer tubes on the carbs running together into one tube and then running to the front of the airbox. Then I haveanother tube running from the larger diameter middle port on the carbs to the other side of the front of the airbox. It runs perfect now. You can eliminate the solenoids, all they do is change the airflow when your going less that 12 mph. Completely useless if you ask me and a good way to reduce weight. all you really need is a filter somewhere in the line to make sure the air going into your carb is clean.
