Default Hello everyone!

hello everyone. im glad to have found such a dedicated forum for this bike. what bring me here is unlike probably everyone else here.

yesterday i purchased the engine for my new drag racing LAWNMOWER. as you can assume it is a f3, a 98 to be exact.

what do you have to do to put this in a lawnmower?

HAHA just kidding

but seriously it is going in a lawnmower. im not her to ask stupid questions that have been answered a million times and if i do, by all means tell me i am lazy and need to use the search field. I frequent many other forums so i know whats answer the same question over and over is like.

now before i go any further please let me say that monster garage i am working out of has produced some very interesting pieces of machinery. for instance a 1983 honda atc/xr 200 (hybrid) powered lawnmower. also a yamaha yz250 powered lawnmower. both of which were beaten at our yearly festival drag race. you can videos of these on my youtube channel b0mb3r315's Channel - YouTube you'll have to go to the end of my videos to find them. also there are some located here: aczacherl's Channel - YouTube

anyways this year we are coming back with more power, more excitement and more... well nutz

yesterday we bought a 98 cbr600f3 with supposedly 14K for $300. now before you tell me i robbed the guy let me explain. really all we got is the engine, wiring harness and frame. we also go the carbs and most of the intake system.

turns out these bikes had a fancy intake like i have never seen, with thier air solenoid and such. im still reading up on that, so until i do i wont ask any questions. we need some pieces for it.

also NOT included in our deal was the cdi and the regulator. both of which have been bought from ebay.

another thing that was not included is the instument panel. her eis where my question lies:

i understand that the air solenoid opens and closes according to speed. how does it know what speed the bike is going? is that coming from the speed sensor in the tranny? and if thats the case do you need the instument panel to correct translate speed and therefore open or close the air solenoid? or is that controlled by the cdi?

THANKS guys and great forum

Um...
Err...
Ah...

Well, hell. Good luck with something that's got me speechless. Here's a little help though: the air solenoid is controlled by the speedometer. Non-functioning (or missing) speed and the solenoid will never switch to the ram duct. But...

Here's how you bypass the solenoid https://cbrforum.com/forum/cbr-600f3...83/#post840830

yeah unfortunatly i looked over the wiring diagram that i have from the manual and realized it IS the speedo that runs the relay that runs the solenoid... that sucks... now on to figuring out what to do about it. im hoping we can just wire it so the ram air is always activated. unfortunatly i think this is going to kill the bottom end which we need. also if we are going to run with the ram air always activated we might as well save a buck and not even buy the missing solenoid and various parts...

lucky for us, we may be able to sacrifice a little down low since we are so crastically over powered to begin with...

i would REALLY love to share pictures of the build... and i will be taking some but the fabricator has sworn to castrate me if information got leaked out before the race. we maybe able to work something out tho

there is going to be a TON of issues along the way but im pretty sure you guys will be able to answer everything i need to know about the motor. the rest of the technology we will be putting into will be coming for lots of other places.

mainly my buddy is not very good on computers, but very good at making things like this. he also owns the garage and all of the toolsand parts

my job is to to the research and read up on forums and all things that dont involve cutting and welding. dont get me wrong i cut, grind and turn wrenches but he is the ones that can figure out all of the hard stuff, like motor mounts and steering (there are also some other top secret parts that he has to build)

i really wish i could give you guys all of the details and sho pictures of the nightly progress but you just never know who might be lurking in here and see it all.

seems pretty crazy for 3 hours a year, i know

and oh did i mention... im the crazy sob that going to run this baby... i have never rode a crotch rocket, but im im not scared. (the race is only like 200ft) we might hit 60 if we are lucky... hoping to keep it in either 1st or 2nd actually

yeah thats what im thinking too... even if i do find some gauges they arent going to read right with a 16" tall tire in the rear and therefore the solenoid will open before my air speed is 12mph.. of course there are things that could be done with sprockets that will make it read right.

its seems most people having problem with the air soleniod are finding it is not kicking into ram air. i havent found too much info on the side effects of just eliminating it and always running ram air. still got more looking to do in the street fighter section

As far as just taking the the solenoid off and not running one effecting power: You would never know its gone. I had my F3 ran with no solenoid for along time. Ran just fine.

As far as your build:

Just found these online, Its been done before....
