Default having trouble starting

there was another post on here from a couple days ago but i didnt exactly understand what he was sayin his bike was doin. so ill explain mine sorry if its the same thing.

when the start button works, the bike starts up and runs fine. no problems. but sometime the ignition button will not do a damn thing. it wont even turn over. but the lights dim like the starter should be turning when you press the button. so then ill roll start it and it will run like a top. then after i shut it off i give it a good 30% chance that its not start when i try it. the battery is charged plenty all lights are bright. any ideas?

i have no clue i just bought the bike 4 days ago cause the guy was movin to vegas and wanted it gone. how do i check it? i cant get ahold of the guy i bought it from cause well, he's in vegas. i was thinking something could be loose??? cause its not a constant thing. it either starts fine or the button does nothing. then after you ride it around it can change. i dunno. how do i check if the regulator is good tho? thanks.

and on a side note i dont know if this would have anything to do with that problem but something in the electric system isn't workin right either the higher the rev's are the brighter the lights get. i can work on cars all day long.... but i dont know dick about bikes.

also...apossible short in the switch.....have to run continuity check(complete circuit).... also check the ground strap at the block...corrosion etc...and your battery terminals for tightness

i just had the same problem, tonight. this last week, i had the whole bike apart to jet the carbs, i might have pinched a wire when i had to take the throttle cables off and the kill switch. none the less the bike runs awesome with the new jets. let me know if you find a solution to this problem
thanks

My wifes '97 F3 used to have those same symptoms. When it starts, it starts fine. Other times, you turn the key, press the starter button, nothing happens. It wouldn't even try. After some checking, I found the the starter switch gets its power from the Engine Stop switch. I took the right handlebar switch assembly off the bike and took the switch apart (it wasn't hard to do). I cleaned the contacts with a little scotch brite pad and put it back together. She never had the problem again. It's well worth looking at.

Good luck.
