Hate to beat a dead horse
Ok so catastrophe struck yesterday, Everytime i started my bike after i left work, the starter was turning slower and slower untill finally when i was getting ready to leave my friends house. Turned the key all the lights were dim, hit the starter....notta. after much crap we finally get the seat off (no tool to get the bolt out) and jump it off, started right up took the cables off and it held its idle. When i put the seat back on the bike sputtered and died. I rememberd hearing the rectifier thing was part of the charging system, and i have a whole bike worth of spare parts so i grabbed it just incse, when i went to make the swap i notice a wire broken out of the plug that goes into the rr thingy....and when i pulled the rr of the harness it was moderatly burnt and the plug was slightly melted....does this mean....i need to replace my whole wiring harness or is there a way i can just find what shorted and rerun those wires? could it be anything besides the rr?

the main componets of your electrical system are your stator, battery and regulator(rectifier). when ither one of these 3 things starts to go bad it causes a drain on the other 2. now by replacing just one it doesnt solve your problem because the other 2 are already in a weakend state.
basically to give you a short simple answer i do believe it is your "RR". cut the pig tail off and use some connectors to wire up the new plug. jump your bike to get it started and then ride it because the battery wont charge unless it is above i believe 3500+ rpms.
now about your stator over charging and making the battery go bad very well could be true due to the fact if the "RR" wasnt working correctly it makes the other pieces work harder and then componets fail.

I have the same exact thing going on with the misses bike, one day after jumping it Itouch it and it was hot, I mean hot. The next day I pulled the connector and it was just like yours burnt. Looking for a spare one now, to slice and replace with the new rectifier when it comes in.

yea i replaced the pigtail and the rr, that was about a year ago when i did it. from the searching i did you can replace it with an rr+pigtail off of any kind of bike. just make sure the new wires are the same, 5 wires, 3 one color the other 2 are different colors. i think thats how it goes . i went ahead and replaced my stator just because i had one laying around so i dont know if the first one went weird on me

A friend told me the stator was over charging and that's what caused the problem....i dont know if i believe him or not....anybody have a thought on that?

RR's go bad once a year usually.Always start with the simple stuff first.
