im rebuilding an engine and noticed the fuel coming from the pump was orange, not just tinted but straight orange. This was with no tank on it, i was feeding fuel down the tube through the filter and out the pump into a bottle.

Replaced the filter and ran some gas through and it was clear. thought the problem was gone. After a few days of gas sitting in the filter and pump, it turned orange again. The gas in the filter was orange. Im thinking that whatever is tainting it leeched up from the pump. So my question is, Is there a way to clean my pump out? Do i just run gas through it over and over? or is there something i can run through it to clean it? Thanks for any help!

Is the tank coated on the inside with anything orange?

 

no it is not, and i just ran fuel right into the line without using the tank anyways so it couldnt be from that.
