Gear Slipping???
I finally got my 97 cbr out today, and it was doing great. When i got on the highway in 3rd, the gear sounded like it was slipping. when i hit 6000 rpms, it revved up to about 8500 rpms before it went back down to 6000. it also does the same thing in 6th gear. It only happens at 6000 rpms. I have no problem with any of the gears or any trouble shifting? Could it be the chain, or should i be expecting to replace the transmission soon...i hope not? thank you for the help.
Wot sort of miles has your beastie got & how long has the bike been sitting & time between oil changes & wot oil did you use? Clutch slippage is systematic, It usually appears at different times, (like sitting at the lights with the clutch in & the bike starts to move forward) & like you described, but you usually get slippage at different revs & times.
The quickest way to check/maybe fix the problem, is change the oil. Look for fibrous type stuff in it. If you do find some, then that bits of your clutch breaking away. But changing the oil can often fix wot your experiencing. Crap oil, long periods of inactivety can gum up the plates.
