Default Gas Tank

Graphics on the tank, are they decals on there, or are they panited? I know teh F2's were painted on there, and the F4s were decals. What are the F3s?

The graphics on the tank are decals. The are however located under the clear coat. The decals are available from honda. I've not talked to anyone that has repainted a tank and clearcoated over the decals like the factory does. Maybe someone on here can speak to that.

I painted my tank and yes they are decals.I didn't put any back on but if you wanted to just put on the basecoat and let it dry put the decals were you want them and clear the whole gas tank.

actually, i wanted to go w/ an all black tank w/ the honda wings on it. so if it were decals, i was thinking of sanding down the clear coat to remove teh decals.

Yeah you can do that just make sure you put some high build primer on it because it will see were you sanded off the decal.I took a heat gun and loosened the adhesive and used a razor blade very carefully.

you really need a razor blade? It won't peel off like it would if you were peeling it off your fairings?

hmm i figured a heat gun would have done the trick alone and maybe some oops or goo gone to remove the residue....

No it want peel off like the fairings b/c it has been cleared over.Your best bet is to sand it off and prime it is going to be the easiest way.I have painted cars and bikes for countless years if your careful you can use a razor blade to get the pieces off that won't come off.

The heat gun will do the trick on the fairings but not something that was cleared over.
