Fuel Pump

Fuel Pump
Does anyone know usually how long a factory fuel pump will last on a stock 1996 F3? What are any signs that the pump might be going bad? Do these pumps just quit when they're bad or do they gradually go bad while hurting performance? Sometimes my bike just shuts down while doing 80mph.. it will just stall like it ran out of gas, but there's plenty of gas and I'll open the gas cover to release any pressure and that doesn't help and it's hard to start right away. I'm wondering if it's the fuel pump, just had carbs cleaned and synced but problem still occurs. Thanks...

RE: Fuel Pump
Generally, when a fuel pump goes bad - there isn't any warning.
Check this manual, www.stephygee.com/F3manual.zip. Look at page 18-16 and follow the steps to test your fuel pump.
If that isn't the problemcheck your in-tank fuel screen for debris, check the lining of the tank for rust and make sure you don't have any leaks anywhere in the fuel lines.
