Default FORK height

Just installed new fork seals in my cbr on the weekend i got everything back together works good just wanted to check if any one knows how to get the height of the tubes exact. This is the from where the hand controls are. There is no groves or any thing on the tubes so i eye balled it and it seemed to work good. I also couldnt find what height they should be off the triple tree. Any help would be great.

Not sure about 95-96 but on 97-98 there's a retaining ring at the top of the fork. Remove the ring then insert the fork tube in the triple clamp. Install the ring then let the fork slide down until it hits this ring. Basically the triple clamp lines up with the very top of the fork tube.

This dimension is from racing and experimenting, but this will make your bike turn in quicker as well as handle better.Just be aware of this on your first ride.Take a few to get the feel of it.From the top of the triples w/the clip-on off it is exactly 2" to the top of the cap.Above the retainer ring slot but not to the wrench fitting to remove the cap.Just flush with the top of the cap. This is not so much that it will make the bike twitchy, even at 160.Its just a middle ground that will make your bike handle better.
