F4i conversion, missing temp sensor

F4i conversion, missing temp sensor
Hey Folks, I've been doing some reading on the sensor swap, but have had a very difficult time locating the part itself.
I know you can use the 98-99 900rr sensor, but that seems to be a very rare find. Keep finding 97 sensors, which I don't think I can use.
I once read a post about another sensor off a VFR that will work, but I cannot find the post to track down the part number.
Any help in locating this sensor would be very appreciated!
Also, can this swap be done with the carbs on?
Thanks
n

Buy it OEM, it's cheap enough.
I ordered one at the local dealer and had it 5 days later.
Just be extremely careful pulling the old one.
Warm the bike, soak it with WD-40...wait at least 30 minutes.
Use a 6-point socket, it distributes the force more evenly
and less chance of slippage.
Pay attention when you go to break it loose.
There are a lot of stories of folks snapping them off flush.
If it is feeling stubborn, hose more WD-40, start the bike and re-warm it.
Give it 5-10 minutes, then check it, see if it's ready.
Taking your time on the front-end, will save a lot of frustration/effort later.
I used regular white Teflon-tape to seal the new one, when I installed it.
Hope this helps, Ern

No, that sensor mentioned above is for the radiator fan control.
The correct dash/guage temp sensor is on the right of the bike down by the CCT.
It is about 3/8"-1/2" in diameter, with a single wire leading to it.
Yellow (I believe, but that's recall, not a visual confirmation).
