I did a cross country trip on an F3 with just a backpack. That could be an option too.

 

You're a much tougher man than I that's for sure. I did a few hundred mile trip to N. Florida with a backpack. Never again. Over time, very uncomfortable. But you go right ahead... lol

 

I did the same thing, went from Auburn, AL down to Destin, FL.
50mph winds and a nasty storm followed me wherever i went, and my backpack got soaked.

Get something that's waterproof, that can mount on your tail.
I'm considering making myself something of that nature soon because I ride too much to carry that crappy 10 dollar walmart backpack of mine
