F3 Rear Shock Nitrogen
So what year F2 do you have? Im guessing not the 94. Some people put F4i shocks on their F2 or F3 and swear its an improvement. It raises the rear of the bike quite a bit which helps quicken the steering. If I ever did that I would raise the front almost the same amount the keep the factory levelness the bike came with. I actually plan to do that one day with my other F2. I got a F4i shock that looks almost not used for $25 shipped.
Race Tech tells me that a F3, F4, or F4i shock will raise the rear by 2" or so. I'm not too hip on that idea.

So, because of what Race Tech says, I'll look at a '94 F2 shock. I think that ought to have the same eye-to-eye length and allow the same stance as it came from the factory.

I didnt think or realize the F3 shock raised the rear of the bike like the F4 shocks, who wouldve thunk it. I know they changed the linkage rate for 95 & 96 which might be why it lifts the rear. But I also know they change the linkage rate back to the old F2 linkage rate for 97 & 98. Most people who end up getting a Fox or Ohlins adjusts the ride height about 10mm to quicken steering. That one of the advantages of the aftermarket shocks. I had my 94 F2 shock rebuilt for my weight etc. when I raced the bike back in the mid to late 90's. I sure it was better than what it was. The only reason I did it was cause a Fox or Ohlins cost way too much at the time & it was a way to possibly lower my lap time on the cheap. Fast forward 15yrs, I start doing track days & I have a whole lot more money, I get a Fox that I paid top dollar for then had it rebuilt for my weight etc. Night a & day difference, the Fox is waaaaay better than a factory rebuilt shock. If I knew then what I know now I wouldve never wasted $150-$200 rebuilding a factory shock for racing. You could probably be into a Fox for $350 or so, price of the shock & having it built for you.

But I'm also of the opinion that the biggest gain in handling will be swapping out the F2 fork inners & tubes with F3 parts and Racetech springs. And for spirited street riding, a '94 F2 shock with a rebuild is likely all I'd ever want. I may do some track days in the future, but I'll still be the slowest dude out there (not from equipment, rather, plain unadulterated fear).

You dont need to watch ebay for a Fox shock when I already have one for sale! I even willing to part with the spare set of 94 F2 forks (essentially the same as F3 forks). You could dial in the older 91-93 forks with different oil weights, preload spacers, springs or "emulators" but it would take more time, so you dont really need F3 internals when 94 F2 forks are available. The number one thing to change on a stock motorcycle to go quicker besides proper tires & track time, is the shock, anyone who knows what they're talking about will tell you that. I'm on ebay all the time, there is quite a few 94 F2 shocks for around $50 give or take, I wish they would say how many miles the shock has on it. Some do.
Well, my concern is that, while I'd like to make it to the track (and probably will), my understanding is that the spring rate on the Fox is crazy stiff for street riding, and that's where I'll spend 99% of my time. I have ridden some '94 F2's and a few F3's and I thought the stock shock was a decent compromise.
