Thumbs down F3 meets pavement and gaurdrail

SOOoo was riding on a wonderfull road today a few miles from the house 20 miles from the infamous dragon. Was going around a very nice uphill left hand sweeper When the rear end suddenly decided that it would hold no longer, THe bike drops to the ground spining the rear wheel to the gaurd rail. I follow right behind on my left side. It felt smooth at the time but my soreness tells me it wasnt as smooth as it seemed. The bike then meets the gaurd rail and stands strait up and rides down the gaurdrail for another 50 feet or so. As im watching this hapen some how I end up going from sliding to standing as quik as the bike did luckily it wasnt the gaurd rail that stood me up though. I check myself as im getting out of the road, my buddy on his R6 checks on me (he was right behind me) im okay but, leg definately got caught inbetween Tank and road. got the bike to start and got to a pull off. Any way I do actualy have a question I warped one front rotor. Do I need to replace both? Thank god for good gear

Wish I could say it was a newbie mistake but after 15 years of riding and countless trips down this road I should have known better. To fast to soon cold tires bad things will happen

Sorry about the slide, glad you're alright. For the rotor, you can just replace the one that's warped. Check the forks and brake calliper mounts too just to be sure.

So, not to be too morbid, exactly what road were you on ? Maybe a GoogleEarth link so we know what to watch for.

I would have thought both rotors should be replaced at the same time, but maybe bikes are different than cars. If it was a car, I would def change out both rotors.

Unless the rotors are damaged in some way, it would be crazy to replace a perfectly good rotor. I could see if one had worn out and needed to be replaced, then it would be reasonable to believe that the other was worn as well. But if they were both in good condition and one gets damaged, there's no need. Brake callipers will squeeze the rotor evenly no matter how thick or thin it is (within reason anyway). It also won't affect handling, remember there are bikes that have only one rotor on the front and they don't have problems.

Thanks for the fast replies. I cant believe the price on the oem rotors like 312. found some on ebay but the seller listed them as for a 96,97 and from what ive found the 97 has different rotors. Still have yet to hear back from them. I would really prefer replacing just one im glad to hear you say thats fine, it makes since. As far as the road it was hwy 28 from bryson city to franklin.(not to be confused with hwy28 the hellbender leading to the dragon) A twisty sweet little secret that happens to have a 55mph speed limit from end to end with endless long sweeping curves and tons of elevation changes with little traffic. The curve that got me is about 2 or three miles in on the bryson side.(The curve with the fifty foot long purple and yellow stripe going down the gaurd rail) And if youve never been down the road to the Dragon (Tail of the dragon, or Deals gap) it should be on the must ride list of any rider. Thanks again

Ooooh nice road. I'll have to check it out next time I'm up there. I've been on the other 28 you refer to as an alternate back to Robinsville.
