Sorry, in my last post, i said 18 year old thermostat, but i meant radiator.
Although the thermostat is also 18years old.

However, because i did an F4i gauge swap, i had to replace a water temp sensor so that i could get a reading. From my understanding, this is just a reading, and does not impact the fans operation.

The fan temp sensor is located near the radiator? sorry, this cooling issue is boggling me.

Did the bike overheat with the original F3 guages? (I believe I asked that question before and got no answer) Did you check the thermostat like we suggested? Did you check the water pump like we suggested? Not to sound like a dick but we have suggestions, you dont seem like your doing what we suggest and you keep asking questions. No offense, just trying to help.

No, it never did, however I only had the bike for 3 months before i did the swap. That was 4 years ago, and the overheating issue is just becoming an issue over the last year.

To the "dick" comment. you're being a bit more aggressive than necessary. I'm in Canada, its minus ****ing cold, and the bike is in a non-heated garage. At the risk of breaking something because of the cold, I won't be doing any testing till the temp gets back up.

This thread was investigative. I am asking questions based on what I know, what I have experienced. I wanted to understand which sensors were responsible for what before I did anything. At this point, the gauge and the rad fan are in alignment (turns on at 220, turns off at 210) but the issue is that it never needed to do it as often as it does now and rarely is able to bring it back down to 210 without the bike moving.

My riding habits have not changed. However I have bigger issues as i have to fix the charging system before i worry about the heating issue.

I will take the recommendations and tackle them once its reasonable to work on the bike.

What's so aggressive about him trying NOT to sound like a dick himself?

I don't get it.

It wasn't necessary for him to try to help you when you asked for help, but he did because he's helpful like that. He did not attack you.

If you don't like answers you get on a public forum or how they are written, ignore them. Simple.

I understand why the response to my post was like it was. So I'm good. Not bothered by it at all. I understand that the weather/temperature is a factor when it comes to getting things done. I dont even want to go outside until it gets in the 60F's, it was 0F the other day, and I have a wood heated garage. I wonder if anyone has ever used the Prestone Super Flush on a motorcycle, with good results. That might be an option. Hope you get this sorted. Keep us updated.

Sorry about my response, there was nothing wrong in your original response that I took offense to. It's been a rough couple days, and while that's no justification, it is what it is now.

Right now there's not much i can do for testing to make sure the sensors are doing their job. All i can say is that the temp readout and operation of the fan seem inline with how the bike always operated.

I was doing some research on damaged stators, to see if i can start pinpointing a time at which i noticed the temps becoming unusual. of course i understand that a stationary bike gets hot, but the bikes temp was a lot more manageable.

That said. I've had a series of dead batteries, leading my suspicion to a RR issue, and as it turns out the RR i have had a recall. Now that doesn't tell me anything without testing the bike, but based on my DMM reading last year, it's not charging to the peak it should.

My question now is, is it possible for a damaged stator to produce enough heat to cause a sizable impact on the overall oil temp of the bike. A failed stator will impact the charging system, but google searches couldn't conclude any substantial heat impact of the bike, but, perhaps that's an answer in itself.

Anyhow, appreciate the assistance.

One thing you could try to help clear out all the passages is to run distilled water in the bike. You change it out a few cycles and it clears it out. It works by being ultra pure so it acts as a solvent. You keep changing it and it will take a lot out safely. Just use it as regular coolant for a while.
