Engine temps!

Engine temps!
Its been 3 years since I have had my 94 1000F on the road. The bike doesn't overheat but I can't remember how high the temp gage would go normally before I stored it. On a hot day in traffic, the gage is up about 1/8 to 3/32 of an inch to the HIGH end of the normal range. The electric fan kicks on and off, but I just don't remember the gage going that high. Once on the highway, the temps come way down, about 1/4 of an inch from the LOW end. What are you all seeing on your bikes??

RE: Engine temps!
Seems mine is the same, however..
Be aware of tailwind when stuck in traffic!
I was in traffic, with about a 10mph tailwind, I think it stalled out the airflow thru the radiator, and the temp got up and just a smidge past the hot mark. I was ready to pull off the road but, the traffic started to move, and it came right down.

Yep, that's about right for the temp range. Even with the mods I have done, the cooling system does its job. Yesterday, it went to 90 degrees, cruizing at 60 or above, the bike stayed in the lower quarter of the guage. When at idle at a red light it went right up to the fan kicking on, and then it was only in the upper two-thirds of the guage.

Yeah... all of you pretty much described what mine does. I think the swing of the needle between the 1/4 mark and th red is about 20 degrees....
So far it's not been in the red, but one day it was real close. As soon as I got it up to freeway speed, it was fine again. Kind of scary though.

I agree with all the above. I was in traffic and it was about 100 degrees F, yesterday, and I was on fresh pavement. It had to be 120 where I was sitting. My gage got the highest ever, almost in the red. Sometimes when it gets up above 3/4 scale I do notice some high temp. pinging. I always wait until I get on the open road and the gage drops back to 1/4 scale and I know my engine is at operating temp. before I roll it on.
It's nice to here all that input. I thought it was just my bike and when I got home I checked the coolent level.

RE: Engine temps!
Only ridden mine (1990 F-L) for a few days but it's been really hot (for the UK), 35 degrees +. Sitting in London traffic the temp goes over half way up, the fan comes on and blows hot air all over my legs. As soon as I get her up to a steady 30, 40 or 50mph she cools down again, gauge about 1/5 of the way up.
Back in 1987-8 I had an F-H and F-J (I think - the first jelly-mould ones with cross-ply tyres) and I remember their engines actually cutting out in London traffic in the heat - accompanied by an overpowering smell of petrol.
