RE: Engine Welding Questions
What you would need to do is prep it all. Its hard to describe but if you place the broken piece onto the mount and grind a V where the actual cracksmeet and then fill the V's in this will make it stronger. Otherwise it'll just crack again. The Vs ideally need a combined angle of 60 degrees in order to be any good. i.e. 30 degrees each on the broken piece and mount but it can be less as the outside material is circular, which therefore will make the angles greater. Sorry if this doesn't make sense but if you place the broken piece back onto the mount, you will obviously be able to see the old hole, where the crack meets the threads this is where the two axis points of the 60 degrees need to start and then the lines move out towards the outer edge. Hope it kind of made sense, however if your not a welder then i wouldn't even bother as you'll need a TIG welder and pure shield gas and aluminium filler rods. Then you need to know what composition of aluminium the mount contains. As there are different mixtures of aluminium.
