Electrical problem
hey guys i need help i got 96 honda cbr 600 f3 and its not charging the battery. i replaced the regulator twice and its keep burning it what can it be please help tell me what the problem if anybody know
There is more to the charging system than just the r/r. They are getting burned up for a reason. Perhaps a bad battery, shorted stator, or burned up connections. All of which are fairly common. Testing and checking them are simple with a DVOM and an open eye. Hatter should be along with links shortly, if you don't have a manual to guide you through the tests.
This has been posted by everyone including me about a bagillion times you could have done a search around!
Now il be nice after my rant
First check your battery voltage running
Second check it physically.
Third remove rr and scrub the earthing plate till its got a good finish, by that i mean for conductivity not so it looks nice and shiny.
Next check your stator i know ive 'burned' reg recs and turned out to be my stator had shorted out melted itself and that takes a lot of voltage.
You can remove your stator cover and inspect it if your mechanically minded but youll need a new gasket, make one out of a coco pops box
that was a joke get genuine honda but they arent cheap. Or il be really nice and see if my haynes book of lies has a thing how to check sator?

One of the common issues I've noted is the harness, itself, is under-wired for the
current it carries. i.e. it only uses about a 16-guage wire. If you have had to do
several replacements to the r/r and the stator checks out, run your own wiring
between the stator and the r/r (those 3 yellow wires). Use at least a 12-guage,
when you do this.
