Electrical charging system. HELP!
Hey guys. I know this is a Harley page. But I'm in need of some help! I have a 98 Honda cbr600f3. Battery was dead. Changed it. Took her out, bike kept trying to die out in neutral and while holding the clutch. Had to roll stop signs to get home. It died in the driveway. Charged battery and it still tests fine. The old battery died because of running it on a bad charging system. Did some research. Tested my stator wire connections that come out of the case to the first plug. I read I should be reading 50-70volts. I was reading 15. Opened the case, stator had some clear discoloration on it. Put a brand new one in, still the same thing. Now with that being said, the stator obviously isn't putting out the power it should in order to charge the battery and run the bike. Would that mean it's the magneto not operating properly? I'm not sure where to look. I have no continuity to ground where I shouldn't. And I have it where I should. Kinda frustrated at this point. Any information helps!! Thanks guys
I was on a harley electrical forum and just copied and pasted my post. Lol. Forgot to get rid of the harley part. Anyways. If the stator is brand new and not functioning properly. Shouldn't that mean that something ahead of the stator isn't working properly? I'd imagine so.
So. I tested the stator connections after work. One leg reads just over 20, another reads just over 20 and the last one reads under 20. Dont know if this information helps in any way. I'm going to be testing the r/r and posting an update tomorrow.
