Default Couple questions

hey everyone, just have a couple questions.
first off, last week i picked up a full two brothers system off ebay, little damage to the slip on and a small ding in the headers, but got a hell of a deal on it
but, i know alot of people go for the dynojet stage 1 jet kit, but i really dont want to pay $100+ for one. id much rather just buy new main jets, any of you guys do that instead of buying the kit? how much bigger did you go with the jets?
next question, sometime this winter im going to drop the engine and give it a once over, and while its out im going to check the valves, now once again, i dont want to drop the cash for a shim kit, id much rather check them, figure out what sizes i need, and then order them individually, any place to get individual shims? or would i just be better off buying the kit?
thanks in advance!

Problem with carbs is there isn't a blanket adjustment that works for all bikes. As far as I'm concerned, it's black magic that is affected by elevation, intake velocity, what you had for breakfast in the morning and the color of your jeans.

As far as sourcing the parts, let me know. We have a box of shims n' jets in the shop if you have trouble finding them apart from entire kits.
