coolant looks like pudding??? WTF
I need help guys. My bike overheated this morning. I didn't notice the gauge getting hot or anything, and the fan never came on. I dont think it needed to because I never caught traffic, but it boiled over dumping a small pudle on the ground. I tow it home and get it torn down and when I pop the radiator cap it looks like vanilla pudding.
Does anyone know what might have caused this. I've had the bike for a year and now and the only problem I've had was a slight coolant leak. Over a week it might leave a coin sized green spot on the ground. I would top if off every month or so. It always looked fine at the rad cap. I've never had any problems with this bike and now this. I've only put 2000 miles on it. I'm going to check the thermostat and fan switch. I got that stuff, but I've never seen this pudding like substance before.
Thanks,
Ryan

You, my friend have oil mixed in with your coolant. Common causes for this:1)blown head gasket, 2)bad seal in the oil cooler, 3)crack in the cylinder wall somewhere, 4)bad waterpump seal...good luck with the inspections. The same thing happened to my f2 and I found a spot where the previous owner had welded a spot in the cylinder walls from a previous crack.

For the sake of ruling out the really lame problems first, he should be able to do a compression test to determine if the cylinder is cracked, right?
btw i'd fill it with coolant and try to diagnose the leak first off, it might lead you to the problem.
Also once you get it fixed, change your oil asap.

Yeah I borrowed a friends compression gauge and I'll be checking the compression later tonight. I'm going to drain the oil also, I dont want the bearings to sit in water if its in there. I'm also planning on checking the oil cooler, thats the area it was leaking from before. I'm hoping that later tonight I will have more answeres for all my questions. I'll post up later.

Well as far as flushing the coolant system, I'd pop off one side of a hose, and put a garden hose into the part that runs towards the water pump, start it up, and rev it up and everything. Someone will say that you shouldnt put anything but coolant or distilled water into the system, but heck its got oil in it, so how bad could it be?

I don't know if I would disconnect a hose from the coolant system and connect a garden hose to it because the water has toexitsome where too. I would just flush the coolant system a few times by filling it with water and running it. Make sure you make an attempt to bleed the air out of the cooling system by the way.
