Changing rear shock using paddock stand
I'm looking at changing my rear shock as it's leaking and the rear is a little bouncy. However I don't have a garage so cant use straps to lift the bike. Is there anyway of changing the shock with just a rear paddock stand somehow? I understand the shock will still be under tension in this situation. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
I picked up this tip a while back, it works great!
Go out to your car and get the little bottle jack. Place it on top of your rear wheel, and brace it under the subframe/tail assembly. You might need to remove the plastic back there to prevent damage, or you can use a thin board inbetween to protect things. The tail is very light w/o you on it, so a couple of twists of the jack/tire will support the weight. You can then unbolt and remove the shock with ease!
Good luck!
