+1 means going one tooth larger on a sprocket than what it originally came with from the factory. -1 means one tooth smaller than the stock original. The first number refers to the front sprocket.

The gearing works the same way as it does on a bicycle. Going to a smaller size on the front means more torque but a lower top speed. Just the opposite on the rear.

Just like some have already said you get what you pay for. Personally I got on Ebay and found a chain and spocket kit for my 96 F3 for 140 shipped. I felt that this was ok as I am fairly new to riding and I don't plan on going ***** to the wall as I too am just getting used to my bike. IMO I would check Ebay if you don't want to break the bank and just want to get rolling and get some seat time in.

I just bought a Thrust Company/Moto-haven 520 conversion kit on ebay for my F3 priced around $150. It hasn't come in yet, but they have answered every single one of my emails almost immediately and shipped it out asap and kept me updated thus far.

I'm very pleased so far. I also got the "mild" gearing version, because I'm a bit heavier than the average rider and figured it wouldn't hurt.

So, I hope the product is as good as the service!

Default 2. Cleaning a chain?

Any tricks for cleaning a chain so it doesn't need to be replaced so soon?

Got everything in today (520 conversion kit). I think the gears are 15 and 45 (+2). That's the "mild" gearing stage. Phillip even wrote thank you on the receipt! Chain looks good, shipping was fast and well-packaged...

Sorry if image is too big or anything.

can't wait to see how much better my F3 feels with a new chain, sprockets, tires and brakes and everything

Do you guys think I'll lose a lot of RPMs on the highway with that gearing? I don't plan on riding much highway, but I figured since I'm on the heavier side I should go with mild, which is what they suggested...which is +2 in the rear.

EK makes and excellent product. As for the change in gearing, going from 43 to 45 will reduce your actual speed @6000 RPM in 6th gear down from 76 mph to 73 mph. Not significant at all. It's probably a good compromise for you.

thread is a few months old but nobody ever follows up... are these sites decent? or is there a better site for a steel sprocket/chain combo to go with?
