Default Chain and Sprocket kit??

Hello so i've got a standard CBR600 F3 97 and need a new chain and sprocket kit for it but looking around there are many to choose from such as 130,140,150 links in the chain and a range of 38 tooth to 54 tooth.

Any surgestions from anyone?? thanks

The standard length of chain for the F3 with original sprockets is 108 links. Chains are generally sold in longer lengths and the buyer or installer is expected to cut the chain to the length requred for the given application. 120 link lengths is a common size. You can sometimes find chains cut to your specific application, but if you're going to be changing the sizes of your sprockets, then longer is better. You can always cut it shorter, but you can't cut it longer.

I was also wondering about that.

I also was wondering about the 520 mod? what does 520 refer to? the width of the chain?
Im likely going to need a new rear sprocket because i have the stock vfr on there still.

When looking at a chain, the numbers represent a couple of things. Consider the 525 chain which comes on the F3.
  1. The 5 in the number represents dimension 2, the distance from the center of one roller to another, also called the Pitch. So the Pitch of a 530, 525, and 520 are all the same.
  2. The 25 represents the distance width of the roller, or the distance of the inner side plates from each other. The inner side plates of a 525 chain are closer together than a 530, and a 520 chain is closer still. The narrower the rollers, the less weight there is to a chain. That translates to less mass that has to be accellerated and decellerated.
If you look closely at the gap between the inner and outer side plates, you can see the black "O" ring, or in this case an "X" ring.

whats the best ratio to go with? i know that if u change the sprockets too much for acceleration it actually get slower at accelerating at least from what ive noticed from my quad and my friends gsxr that he ordered a ridiculous sprocket kit for. his bike was slow but would do real good wheelies. im running 14/45 on my f2. i noticed a big difference from the 15 tooth to the 14. its kinda hard to pull second gear wheelies tho i do em at about a 30 - 35 roll at 5500 to 6000 rpms, rev up and pop the clutch. it doesnt wanna pick up real easy tho i gotta rev her up to at least 10000 and give it more as i pop the clutch. somtimes i can get right up to the balance point and ride em a long ways other times and most the time it doesnt wanna get up high enough to really ride it. anyway i was thinking of changing the rear sprocket up another tooth or 2 but i want to have the best ratio, basically the best 1/4 mile time ratio. any ideas?
