CCT for 1,200!?!?
ok so i picked up a bike last thursday and it seemed to run great. i ride it around for a while and park it home. the next day i go to show it to my friend and when i pull into his driveway we notice that its leaking oil....bad. like a giant puddle and pretty much no oil left. So i change the oil and we tighten the oil lines nad what not. well the didnt work and i got stuck saturday morning far from my house again without oil. I just happened to be near a Honda Dealer so i brought it over there to get it checked out. They told me that the cam chain tensor is broken and its gonna cost me $1,200 to fix.
that just doesnt add up, a CCT cost like 50$ online.
but thats all they said was broken.
so any idea of why it would cost that much?
also, ive looked into it and havent found anyone else that has had oil leaks from this problem. is that common?
could there be a possibility that the CCT has caused other bigger problems that might be a reason for the high maintance price that they just didnt tell me about?
any info at all would be great beacause im trying to have a buddy of mine help fix it for me and he could fix the CCT but not diagnose problems because he doesnt no bikes extremly well.
thanks for any possible help

me and my buddy that helped me look at it thought it was coming from the gear box. idk if thats what its called. the black box above the left peg. there was oil all around there, and all over the chain which got it on the left side of the back wheel.
and the oil only leaked while it was running. it wasnt a small leak but would put giant puddles.
also, the front end and the right side of the bike seemed to be pretty oil free.

from where you describe the leak it is the output shaft seal behind the front sprocket and if you have a dealer do it 1200.00 sounds about right, from my understanding you have to replace that seal from inside the case which means tear down to get to it,
the only puzzle would be why they said cct? its a cheap part on the other side of the case and take all of 10 minutes to replace and adjust (if you get the manual)

ya thats what i didnt get because the cct seemed like a tiny easy fix that wouldnt mess up your bike like mine is.
im trying to find a truck or trailer from a friend so that i can get the bike from the dealer and try and bring it to a smaller shop that the previous owner used to bring it toand see how much cheaper it would be.
any estimates on about how much it would cost at a smaller shop?
also im assuming that its going to have to be professionally done and its not something that if i know anyone with some basic motorcycle knowledge that they could fix it

I'm thinking your average, mechanically-inclined Joe with a decent toolbox could tackle this project. I'm sure it really would be quite the undertaking though. Time to powdercoat anything you wanted to before, maybe some minor preventative maintainence as well.
I'd say a full 10-12 hours for the home DIY'er!

thanks for all the help guys i really appreciate it.
when i go to pick up the bike ill mention the output shaft seal and see what they have to say.
does anyone know of any tutorials or anything to help with doing this to make it easier?
atleast its only 10-12 hours lol

Just a manual man. No write-ups for that that I know of... wanna make one! Lol, good luck man.
These are the jobs I hate, I bet that seal cost like $20 tops and it's going to be a BEOTCH to get to. I'd much rather do it myself though, I'd know it was done right and like I was saying, might be a good time to do some other stuff while you're in there.
