CCT for 1,200!?!?
^ that's not too bad of an idea. If your tight on funds like me, that would be the cheapest route to rockin a bike on the streets again. If you have the money, you can do anything you want, diffrent engine, rebuild, or what not. Good luck!
Man sorry to hear about that. I just got my handle bar and throttle sleve replaced and that put a nice little dent ( wish i would have done it myself ) but I 2nd the idea of just changing out the motor for a bigger one like that 900 you more than liky can find out cheep. good luck to you.
you have to cut the frame for the 900 conversion and rewire a lot of **** unless you are good at fabrication i might look elsewhere....or atleast according to the walkthrough i read. ok my opinion on stealerships is they want nothing but your money and the quicker they figure out you know dick about it they'll take more from you. **** the stealerships mechanics! Buy your parts from them but that is all! Buy the clymer manual and a tool set, a monkey can do it so can you! read the book call a friend and ask for help on here, you can tackle the job! First thing you need to do is find out where the leak is.....unless i misread your guessing where it's coming from...get a set of allen wrenches and a flat head, take your plastics off, on the leaky side of course, and look for the source. wipe the undercarriage clean and look for the drip. I had a bad seal on a water pump that leaked oil i would have described it as you did yours, two dollar seal. DONT JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS! wipe the undercarriage clean and look for the drip. Find the definut source of the leak and get back to us
i will have to try and clean up the bike and look for the drip as soon as i can.(which may not be till this weekend)
the only problem is that i havent really noticed any leaking unless ive been riding it, and i dont want to do anything with it because if the engine is not getting oil i dont want it to siege.
and they said that it was the top end right away from how the engine was sounding once i got it to the shop. i dont no if that changes anything.

i know i'm the new kid on the block around here, so take my opinion for what it's worth, but $1200 is insane to pay a shop... I'm not denying that it would take them a while to do, but at least try taking it apart yourself.
If you get stuck, you can still take it to the shop with nothing lost, or buy a replacement motor for around $700.
won't be easy, but you'd be surprised what you can do with a shop manual (and a second set of eyes looking at it to say, "yeah, you're right; THAT bolt." reassurance is crutial when tackling this sort of thing) - and it's already broken. what's the worst that could happen?

pick yourself up a can of carb cleaner and start cleaning the engine, then look for the fresh oil drip, if need be start the bike to help make it leak once you find that leak take a picture of it and post it up here,,
dont worry about the engine not getting oil as long as you dont run it dry (let it all leak out) it will keep oil pressure, oil pressure and leaks are 2 totally different things, 'provided there's oil in it'
the front sprocket cover is held on with 2 8mm bolts remove them clean around and behind the sprocket best you can use a toothbrush if need be, clean the oil pan, side covers, etc then start watching for a leak
