I'm looking for options of upgrading the rear brake of a 1997 CBR600.

I don't actually own a CBR, rather a 1997 Honda Magna which I have fitted CBR600 wheels and brakes. I wish to maintain the F3 rear wheel and increase braking performance.

I've noticed some suppliers offer a 220mm rear disc as opposed to the standard 200mm. Would this require a different caliper bracket?

Information on any and all upgrades available for the rear would be appreciated.

Honestly I wouldn't waste any money on working on upgrades for the rear brake. 80%-90% of the stopping performance of motorcycles comes from the front brakes. I suspect that you're currently able to lock up your rear brake if tried? I'm not sure how much more stopping power you would be able to exert than that.

 

As mentioned,this is for a Magna with CBR rims and brakes.
Heavier bike with different weight distribution than the CBR.

 

It doesn't matter what bike the wheels are from or what bike they are going on. Most of your stopping power comes from the front. Any upgrade for the rear would only make it easier to lock the rear, especially if your using the front brake properly, which then would make the rear even easier to lock up. Disconnect the front brakes on your car and try to stop. Get the best pads or shoes, convert the rear disc, whatever, you still aint gonna be able to stop properly, especially in a panic situation. Front brakes are everything and thats where the upgrades should be, not the rear.

 

What master are you using for the rear? You could always try fitting one with a larger bore. It would be a lot easier and cheaper to do it that way rather than messing with the rotor and bracket.

 

Currently running the stock cbr600f3 master. What would be a decent upgrade?

The front brakes are awesome compared to stock Magna front brakes. The rear just needs a little more.
