i know a kid right now, hes 16 yrs old, doesnt havea car, doesnt have a drivers license or a permit (for a car) and doesnt have a Lis. or permit for his bike and has a '96 F3 and has had no problem learning on it. so i think ull def. be fine

Actually, the Katana's motor redlines at 11k, it's a pretty bulletproof motor, and both bikes should be equally reliable. One thing about the Katana's motor, if it's the same as in the Bandit 600, then it's going to be more peaky compared to the F3. My sister has one and the power band hits a lot harder than my F3.
Notice how he says his SISTER had one, I'd look for another CBR. just my .02

Actually I was referring to the motor in the Katana, my sister has a Bandit 600
