Default Carberetor Removal

How do you do it?

I am in the middle of replacing my head and need to get the carberetor off and can't for the life of me see how. I've already removed the radiator, fuel tank, air box and exhaust, but still can't see what bolts need to be removed to get the carb out. Looking at the repair manual, it says to remove the band screws on the head side. How does one reach them?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

m.

If it's like most 4 bangers then you have 4 aircraft clamps (that's what we call 'em) that attach the carb at the head. A phillips screwdriver or a small socket to loosen them is all you need. Get them all loose then just wiggle the carbs off (all 4 come off as 1 piece).

Ya,
I was confused too when i first took mine off. I didn't think it could be that simple, but you will have to use some stank to get them off. But they do come, just make sure all the clamps are loose. I dunno if it is recomended but I used a prybar to pop mine off... gently(about 5 pounds of stank).... Good luck. Oh ya make sure u look at what your unscrewing.... i made the mistake of unscrewing one of the carb adjustment screws instead of the clamp.... i hope this helps.

Man, you weren't kidding. After removing just about every friggin hose and loosening all those bands, it still wouldn't come off. Finally I ended using a pole to GENTLY rock it back and forth. Then I slipped a 12" extension under it and grabbing it with both hands (and two other guys) it finally popped off. Geeeezus!!! Is putting it back on going to be that friggin' hard!?!?!?

A very light coat of oil will help it slide back on easier.
