Default CA smog C***

Hi

I brought my 98 Cbr 600 on tuesday and it had been stored for some time and smelled rich so i looked here and found the thread about cleaning the carbs (job done and it worked great) anyway while i was doing it i noticed that i have lots of hoses and junk that weren't on the thread.

the question is, is this because of the different ages of the bikes or is it because of SMOG requirements, if it is smog stuff can i remove it and will it benefit the bike.

also what pipes should i remove

thanks

kim

I just did this on my 96. I removed the pair valve which is bolted to the front of the engine behind the exhaust header. Then had some plates cut out of 1/8" steel to bolt over the ports, You could probably just cap the hoses off or weld them shut, but I wanted to keep everything incase it ever needed to go back on.

Second if you look at the bottom of the bike It should have a big round canister. remove all hoses connected to this, the air solenoid it connects to and the vacuum valve above the fule pump. This will leave you with the hose that runs from the 2 small tubes on the front of the bike. Connect this to the front air solenoid where the other one you removed connected.

My bike runs much much smoother, It also got rid of the deceleration popping I was getting. I also dropped my needle position back one to lean out the top end and now its running better than ever.

If you need photos of what I did let em know, I can snap some tonight after work. I posted this thread a couple days ago before i figured it all out. You can see tubes #4,5,11 need to be removed. In the second image components #2,3,4,9 and 11 also need to go.
