Default Bought a Flip Project - DUMPING FUEL

Hello! I registered here a while ago and i dont know if I ever posted yet. Just a little back story. I have been on dirtbikes and motorcycles since I was 7 and raced in the mud shortly after starting. I have bought every bike I have ever owned in buckets, broken or had an unfortunate meeting with the pavement but still straight and clean title.

This brings me to the 1997 CBR 600 F3 I just got from an estate sale. It was only missing the keys, it had the documentation and a clean title, Death Cert, Power of Attorney.... yadda yadda.

So I bought it. According to the seller the bike was running and riding last summer as he used it to offset the gas cost in his lifted up tahoe. well I got it home, bypassed the ignition and put a fresh battery in and it fired up great... then I noticed that it was horking fuel on the floor.

Come to find out that #2 carb float bowl was missing a complete gasket and the common fuel rail between #3 AND #4 was leaking. Either the "O-Rings" were bad or it had a crack.

Any one had experience with these dumping fuel? Could it just be that the bike was not put away properly, FUEL ON and it **** on itself?

Let me know
Tupp

Sounds like it's just a product of sitting too long with fuel in the system. Pretty common thing actually.
The good news it that it is a pretty easy fix.

so far I have replaced the #2 bowl gasket and I ordered both of the fuel "T-Fittings" or manifolds, fuel rails.... whatever you want to call it. i figured if I have them broken down in to individual carbs it would be stupid not to.

Anything else I should look at if I assume it has been sitting with Gas ON for a while?

While you are at it, save yourself future headache and just breakdown the carbs completely and give them a thorough cleaning. I can pretty much guarantee that if you don't do it up front, you will be doing later. Any carb that has been sitting that long will have varnish and gummy stuff in it.
