Did you find why your bike over heated in the fist place? I had a similar problem with my F3, ended up replacing most off my cooling system, ended up being a fualty ignition. My bike did have similar problems but I really didn't try starting it up after the whole cooling issue. After replacing most of the cooling system I too thought it was the head gasket. I ended up having a friend look at it and he fixed the problem for 15 bucks. Just throwing that out there.
