Bike not shifting with ebay motor swap
I hope you guys can help, Okay I just did an engine swap. Put all back together and got the bike started. I could put the bike in 1st and ride down the drive way back and forth.
So finally when the bike was ready for a test down the block I took off in 1st and coasted down the hill to the stop sign in N. Then I tried to put it down in 1st and it would not shift to 1st or N. So I had to push it home back up the hill and she is heavy.
When I got home I took off the linkage and tried to shift it with some vise grips but it would not go back into N or 1st. I had no problem shifting into 1st and now it is stuck and will not go below 2nd. I checked the adjustment with the Clymer manual and all looks well.
I got this motor off ebay and I am thinking the trans or clutch is no good. What is the problem and what is the solution if any?? Any advice???
Oh Yeah I am using Rotella 5w40 synthetic oil.
Thanks in advances.

Sounds to me like a bent or broken shift shaft. When they get bent you will not be able to grab and rotate the shift drum, so you often will just be stuck in gear. You can pull the clutch cover off and see if you can watch the shift shaft to see if its trying to rotate the drum.
I tried the rock the bike back and forth trick while shifting and its now worse. Bike only goes into 6th gear. So I am going to take it to the shop for a diagnostic. If its something I can do then I will try to fix it. If its over a certain amount then I will have to weigh it out.
The motor came in a cardboard box and the shaft must have gotten damaged during shipment. They should have put it on a wooden stand with a wooden box.

Replacing a shift shaft is not hard at all. Usually when they bend/break its because the dog bone gears have worn allowing the gears to pop out during acceleration. If it is a bad shift shaft make sure to pull hard in second and third, these are most common to be bad.

No, you will need to remove the clutch cover, clutch, clutch basket, and then you'll be able to slide the shaft out. Take a 90 degree ruler and check the rod to the end that engages the drum. Maybe an hour or so job, make sure you put everything back together the way it came apart. Mark all parts according to there locations, sharpies work good.
Did the guy say the engine worked and tested or anything? Either way you can just open a PayPal dispute and get your money back, they are always good about that..
