Riding today and in 2nd the bike would just slip into neutral by itself. It happened a dozen times probably. One time I couldn't upshift at all and was just coasting for about 20 ft. Not so fun in traffic! [&:] Also I was in 4th and pulled up to a light. Couldn't get back down to 1st. Had to feather the clutch and start in 4th! What gives??? Thanks!

my 96 does that sometimes and i just put the motor in a supposedly it only has 6000mi or so,ill be in 6th and go to down shift and by the time i get to third i cant go up or down seems like its floating, it doesn't do it to me going up in gear, but i found that when i down shift i was pulling in the clutch once and doing all those shifts 6th to neutral etc. but if i go from like 6th to 4th then let the clutch out then go down to 2nd and then neutral (NO PROBlems) i asked my buddy about it he says it has something to do with the shift forks, but i really have no idea! I just know letting the clutch in and out helped me. YOurs justslippping into neutral by itself sounds like tranny problems but if it is you should probably just throw another motor in there for like 600-800$ rather then a tranny rebuild which is $$$$$$$$$$ but best of luck to yuh hope it last threw the summer at least.

Worn dogs or shift forks and springs can cause it. Yes, it's training work. If you do it yourself, I don't think it would be $$$$$$. If you have time, a manual, patience, and some determination, I think you'd be talking about a couple of transmission parts and gaskets. If you pay someone, yes it would be several hundred and maybe up to 1200. Not worth paying for, but solicit help from knowledgable friends and go for it. We'll all be there in your corner throwing our opinions out there for you.

THe motor i took out from my 96 orginally had 41,00000000 miles i riped it down thinking it was the main bearings that were bad, but was Clutch basket so im pretty sure everything else is good shape. IF you find out that it is the tranny and what parts, let me know and we can work something out. I cant stand a day without riding,i wouldn't want anybody else to miss out either.
