Default Bike doesnt run with choke off

I start my bike with the choke in the on position. After warming up and a few lite taps of the throttle it still idles around 2k and so I try to take the choke to the off position slowly a little at a time. Eventually not even halfway up it bogs and dies. If i ride it and turn it to the off position it bogs and die when I try to get on the throttle.

Im new to bikes and still learning. My buddy who worked on the bike before I bought it told me he did the tune up very recently. Any suggestions on what to check into? I have the fairings off for paint so checking things out wont be too hard. I searched before posting but couldnt match my problem. Thanks for the help.

you should not give it any gas, it should worm up by it self. once wormed up it should idel at around 3000 rpms, and yours is about 1000 off. on the left side of the bike right under the gas shot off valve there is a **** that you can turn. this **** will adjust your RPMs. when on choke and wormed up all the way it should jump to 3000, once the choke is off it should run at about 1200 rpms.

i hope this helps.

Sounds like the carbs need to be gone through.

Without knowing the history of the bike, it's hard to say for sure. The exact RPM that the bike idles at with the choke on isn't really important, other than to say that it idles quite a bit above the normal idle speed of 1,200 RPM +- 100. Somewhere between 2k and 3k RPM is fine. If it's dying when you turn off the choke after warming up, the idle could be adjusted too low. That's adjusted by the thumb screw on the left side of the bike near your left leg while sitting on the bike. If that screw is having no effect, and/or turns easily, it could have been turned out too much and it fell out of the carburetor. This would definitely cause the problem you're describing. Getting this screw back in can be a challenge.

Then naturally, there is the possibility that your carburetors are dirty and in need of cleaning. If the bike sat over the winter with gas in it and wasn't properly "winterized", it's a probability.
