Battery-R/R-Stator????
I went out to start my bike after a week of sitting, and there was no juice. Battery read 1.4v. I charged it overnight, and got it put in in the morning. Started right up, and ran great for about 5 miles or so. Started sputtering when I took off in 1st gear. I had to get the rpm's up around 6k and slip the clutch. It died on me in the road, and I wheeled it to a parkong lot. Got it bump started, and then it died soon down the road. Had to truck it homw. I bought a new battery, and charged it 24 hrs. Put it in, and it started fine. Next day, started fine. 3rd day, the battery was dead again. I just charged it and rode it around the block. The RR is super hot and looks like there is some melted metal coming out the side. It is toast. I need a new one, but is the stator putting out too much juice? How do I trouble shoot that? I dont want to spend the 100 for a new RR and have it fried by that stator? Help please??

R/R is usually a weak spot for our bikes so I'd not worry bout the strator until I had to. But try this link if you don't have a manual for your bike

R/R is POS on our CBRs. Get a new R/R from Yamaha or Suzuki. They are bigger and stronger. Here is a nice thread about testing your charging system. Do that and you will be good to go.

Do yourself a favor and check the plug where the stator connects to the main wiring harness. If that plug has corrosion or has melted you'll be replacing R/Rs forever. The plug is underneath the tail end of the fuel tank. You can peak at from the right side without removing the tank but you'll have to take the tank off to make any repairs.
Also, go to www.electrosport.com and download their testing instructions. The instructions are invaluable in helping you diagnose problems.
