Default Battery not getting a charge

A couple days ago my bike just stopped running and had no power to turn over, we jumped the bike and it started but once i put it in gear it died again and had no power. When i got it home i trickel charged it and everything worked fine. the weekend before this my battery was dead do to my kids playing with it. I jumped it and took it for a 10mile ride and i didn't even have a charge when i got home so i charged it up and it work good til i broke down. May i add that my son also decided he would wash the bike, and by wash i mean soak it down good, he also filled my tail pipe with water, but back to the battery problems, does anyone know why it's not getting a charge, could the flood job my son did short something out, and is there anyway i could test it to make sure thats the right part so i'm not just getting random parts and hoping that it will be fixed
thanks

first, charge and load test your battery
second, use a voltmeter to check charging voltage

search for one of the hundreds of threads on regulator/rectifier and stator problems. you will most likely find your r/r is bad.

This will get you started. Check the connector, looking for heat signs (melted/warped plastic, burnt pins). If you see that or the epoxy-fill on the r/r is, itself, cracked/not smooth probably the r/r.

You can go with a used 90's GXR 900ish series r/r or for a new replacement, either the Honda upgrade replacement or (my personal choice) www.electrosport.com

yes, I would recommend the gsxr replacement, as I have been through the original, the replacement, and an aftermarket Honda R/R and they all failed me.

The gsxr one is solid.
Make sure you solder the wires, or look into a way of making a connector.
5 wires: +,-, and 3 (ususally yellow) are stator wires.

Easy fix for beginners.

forgot to mention it cost me about 50 bucks.
keep an eye out, i have seen them go for 9.99 free shipping.
