Default Alternator or R/R???

Ok peeps, lol! I just got a 1996 F3 & the previous owner said it died on him 2 weeks ago! So I put in a new battery & started the bike a total of about 6 times letting it run 5-10mins each time! After the 6th start it died on me? So I attempt to restart it... Dead battery!!! Is this the alternator or rectifier? I'm not good with electrical wiring, but I know I can change the R/R as I've located a good used, but updated model (finned model) for $45! So is this what happens when the r/r goes bad? Who can tell me where to get a cheaper model r/r & how to wire it in? I need instructions please, lol! Thanks

Just an update to my CBR problem! It was the r/r which I acquired a new one with a 2 year warranty fairly inexpensive through sportbikewarehouse.com for around $75 shipped! It solved my issue! Once started up it got hot just sitting & I shut it down then later found that the cooling fan fuse was blown, easy fix & that the radiator hose was loose, easy fix! Now all fluids are topped off, fuses good, tires good, instrumentation good, lights good & other than it's lack of having a fuel gauge... I'm very satisfied! The bike only has 1,340 ORIGINAL MILES!!! not bad for a straight up trade on a Katana 600!!! Thanks for the help!
